General Alarm in Hartford
The photos on this page are from the General Alarm fire that destroyed the Hawthorn Center in Hartford, CT. The June 23rd fire consumed three large mill type buildings that covered an entire city block in about 2 hours. Hartford firefighters were aided by many mutual aid companies in not only fighting this fire in but in fighting several other fires that broke out as a result of flying brands. Mutual aid companies also provided much needed station coverage and responded to several other calls while all of Hartford's first line fire apparatus was tied up on Hawthorn St. It was the largest fire in recent memory in the city and no one can remember ever having such a large mutual aid response.
